A decision on the establishment of the Centre for Strategic and Advanced Studies of the University of Novi Sad was adopted by the Senate of University of Novi Sad at the session held September 8, 2016. Academic community has entrusted this unit with two highly significant tasks. On one hand, Centre deals with questions important for bringing strategic decisions at the University level, as well as at the level of wider social community, while on the other, it is devoted to advanced, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies, which allow for a greater extent of integration of knowledge from various fields of science and higher education.
Modern world is faced with numerous challenges that can greatly influence the future of the University of Novi Sad, but also the future of the social community that founded it. The task laid upon the Centre for Strategic and Advanced Studies is to provide the decision-makers with as clear image of the current events as possible, and to point out the directions in which these events may develop in the near and far future. The primary goal is to make the University of Novi Sad ready for changes that will occur in the fields of higher education, science, cooperation with industry, etc., in due time.
The challenges faced by the modern world are too complex to be fully perceived and overcome by solely relying on traditional scientific disciplines. Contemporary science is fragmented and focused on narrow fields. Centre for Strategic and Advanced Studies allows for integration of knowledge from different fields. Within it advanced interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies, important for bringing strategic decisions and development of new fields of science and higher education, are realized. Advanced studies are realized in a planned and systematic manner, with a high degree of so called smart specialization. Planning avoids uncoordinated development and ensures that interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies cover all relevant fields. The goal is to create a system of integrated knowledge necessary for the modern world, and to establish a framework for its development in near and far future. Bearing in mind the facts related to the developmental needs, limits of available resources, and high degree of competition from scientific and educational institutions on a global level, Centre for Strategic and Advanced Studies has determined the priority fields, which are given special support, and in which excellent results can be expected.
Current priority fields of the Centre for Strategic and Advanced Studies are: new materials and nanotechnologies; information and communication technologies; biotechnology; agriculture and food technologies; energy security and renewable energy; environmental protection and sustainable development; social stability and geopolitics.
Workgroups for priority fields, gathering experts from various member-institutions of the University of Novi Sad, as well as associates from foreign scientific and educational institutions, on project basis, have been formed within the Centre.
The Centre for Strategic and Advanced Studies organizes lectures by leading experts from all over the World, initiates and supports research and development projects in priority fields, introduces new interdisciplinary higher level study programs, etc.
