The Scientific Institute of Food Technology was accepted as a member of the University of Novi Sad according to the Decision reached by the Council of the University of Novi Sad on 21 December 2007, as one of a total of two research and development institutes and it was called the Research and Development Institute of Food Technology. The name of the institute was changed to the Scientific Institute of Food Technology by the decision of the Ministry of Education and Science in December 2011. The Institute is the successor of the Scientific Centre of Food Engineering of the Faculty of Technology, the University of Novi Sad, as well as five institutes, laboratories and other organizational units on the basis of which this Centre was developed.
The main activities of the Institute include scientific and research work, with a firm laboratory basis, whose most recent research results are placed on the market via transfer activities. The activities of the Institute are specially focused on food technologies, food quality and safety, and particularly on the field of development of technologies and raw materials in the production of animal feed, animal and plant products, as well as sensory analyses, consumer science and structural characteristics of food.
The Institute employees are experts in the field of wheat and flour technology, sugar technology, fruit and vegetable technology, meat technology, animal feed technology, and experts for utilization of by-products in the meat industry and other technologies.
The Institute is composed of the following: - Project Centre; - Educational Centre; - Centre for Standardization and Quality and - Laboratory for Food Technology, Quality and Safety ʻFINSLabʼ with more than 500 accredited testing methods.
The realization of the capital investments project of the AP of Vojvodina in 2008 is greatly important for further development of activities within the Institute, by establishing elite departments of the Laboratory for Microanalytics, Sensory Analysis and Applied Fundamental Rheology, as well as modernizing the chemical and microbiological laboratory.
JOURNALS OF THE SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTE
The Institute publishes the journal titled Food and Feed Research in the scientific field of food technology.
