Excellent collaboration, exchange of experiences, and both professional and very pleasant social interaction marked the atmosphere of the EUGLOH course “Anatomy of Food and Medicinal Plants”, which was rounded up with the on-site practical laboratory work last weekend (November 22-23, 2025) at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Lana Zorić, the course also included previous online lectures and online presentation of student assignments during October and November. Visiting lecturer during this course was Prof. Dr. Szilárd Czóbel, University of Szeged, Faculty of Agriculture, Hungary.
Students from EUGLOH member universities worked in the laboratories of the Department of Biology and Ecology, where they learned to prepare microscopic slides of plant organs and improved their microscopy skills. They studied the anatomical structure of vegetative organs, especially in medicinal and edible plants, and identified chemical compounds in plant cells using various histochemical methods.
The practical training at UNS laboratories enhanced the students’ understanding of the structural characteristics of medicinal and food plants, while also enhancing their skills in plant anatomy laboratory.
The programme in Novi Sad was complemented with a visit to the Gallery of Matica Srpska, which was organized under the EUGLOH Cultural Corridors programme.
