Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme

Internet of Things and 3D Printing

EUGLOH 2.0 & friends

University of Novi Sad (UNS), Serbia

 Project: 2022-1-RS01-KA131-HED-000051647

2 April-10 May 2024 (virtual part)

20 May – 24 May 2024 (physical part)

BIP is organised by the University of Novi Sad, in collaboration with University of Szeged, Hungary and University of Porto, Portugal and open to all interested students from EU Member States and third countries associated to the Erasmus+ Programme.

BIP vision:

Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the significant trends in modern technology. Internet-enabled devices are omnipresent and always connected to the Internet and to each other. Their application ranges from personal, such as mobile phones, smart home appliances to the wide industrial scale, such as production line monitoring and connected cars. Their constant connectivity generates large amounts of data, which is used for analysis, resulting in reduction of costs, improved safety, and an overall increase in quality of life.

It is inevitable that today’s students will encounter IoT in their future jobs. Therefore, it is of crucial importance for the students to be introduced to the underlying principles, technologies, and procedures of IoT, truly understand its impact and be able to use it in their work.

As for teachers, they must be aware of the vast scope and depth of the IoT, how it relates to modern education, and how to integrate it with the ‘classical’ disciplines taught in academia.

3D printing was until recently reserved for expensive industrial applications or dedicated hobbyists. Nowadays, with the emergence of affordable, easy-to-use 3D printers and software tools, prototyping, and manufacturing of IoT devices is within the grasp of secondary and higher educational institutions. The way of thinking and methods of 3D design should be included in curricula to bring together theory and practice, with the goal of enabling students to produce prototype devices and use them in their work.

Profile of BIP participants - STUDENTS:

Students from EU Member States and third countries associated to the Programme (partner universities in EUGLOH 2.0 and other European HEIs), interested in IoT and 3D printing, who possess elementary computer and/or programming skills.

Profile of staff for regular Erasmus+ training/teaching during BIP:

Academic and administrative staff from EU Member States and third countries associated to the Programme (partner universities in EUGLOH 2.0 and other European HEIs), who are involved, directly or indirectly, in teaching related to the IoT and 3D printing at their institution.

Time frame:

2 April-10 May 2024 (virtual programme)
20 May–24 May 2024 (physical programme)

Expected number of student BIP participants: 20-25 (in case more eligible candidates are nominated, the University of Novi Sad will organise a selection process based on criteria of academic merit, student’s level of experience and the principle of inclusivity)

Application process:

  • Student BIP candidates must apply for the Erasmus+ KA131 BIP grant for short-term mobility at their home institution (please contact the International Relations Office of your University)
  • Regular Staff candidates must apply for the Erasmus+ KA131 training or teaching grant at their home institution (please contact the International Relations Office of your University)
  • The home institution nominates its candidate(s) - home institutions are encouraged to have an internal call;
  • While applying, the candidates can show interest in the BIP and establish contact with the organisers at the University of Novi Sad (IoT.bip@uns.ac.rs) for any questions, support or pre-invitation letters, needed for applying for the grant at the home institution;
  • Selected candidates will be required to bring their own laptops, which can run Arduino IDE (https://www.arduino.cc/en/software/)
  • Deadline for nominations of a candidate by their home institution to UNS IRO (IoT.bip@uns.ac.rs): 31 January 2024 (extended)

Student BIP candidates from EUGLOH 2.0 partner universities can send their application directly to the University of Novi Sad (UNS IRO - IoT.bip@uns.ac.rs) and the University of Novi Sad will further communicate with the student's home institution regarding the nomination/selection and Erasmus+ matters. These students are also funded by their home institution through Erasmus+.

Documents needed for candidate’s nomination:

1) CV
2) Transcript of records for the level of study
3) Motivation letter (with reference to the level of computer/programming skills)
4) Proof of English level knowledge

Erasmus+ grant for BIP participants to Serbia (example of University of Szeged):

Basic Subsistence costs: 70 EUR per day x 7 days (5 + 2 for travel)= 490 EUR

Possible top-ups: Green travel of 50 EUR and Inclusion of 100 EUR

Please contact you HOME INSTITUTION to find out the amount of Erasmus+ BIP grant and the possibilities for you as student applicants to receive top-ups for green travel and/or Inclusion.

The University of Novi Sad will provide one meal (lunch) for all participants during the physical part of mobility, as well as study materials, equipment use, costs related to the cultural part of the programme, and one welcome dinner.

Erasmus+ participants cover, from their own Erasmus+ grant, their travel, accommodation and other costs.
