International Festival of Science and Education 2017 was held on 13-14 May 2017 in the central campus of the University of Novi Sad. The Festival was dedicated to Nikola Tesla and its main themes were electrical energy and telecommunications.
The Festival was opened by Prof. Dr. Vladimir Kostić, President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and the exhibition on Nikola Tesla, by Mr. Branimir Jovanović, Director of the “Nikola Tesla” Museum in Belgrade. During the official opening ceremony, the audience was greeted by Prof. Dr. Saša Orlović, Vice-Rector for Organisation and Finance, Prof. Dr. Dušica Rakić, Deputy Provincial Secretary for Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Prof. Dr. Stevan Stankoviski, Chairman of the Organizational Board of the Festival. The official opening of the Festival was attended by the diplomatic representatives of France, China and Italy.
The Center of Advanced and Strategic Studies of the University of Novi Sad organized, within the Festival, several scientific lectures of particular significance to the future of the academic community of the University of Novi Sad and society as a whole. The keynote speaker of the lecture entitled Future of Science and Education, held on 13 May, was Prof. Dr. Maurizio Fermeglia, Rector of the University of Trieste, Italy. On the same day, the scientific lecture within the wider topic of Telecommunications – present and future was delivered by Prof. Dr. Tetsuya Mizumoto, Vice-Rector for Education of the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. The lecturewas entitled Applications of Silicon photonics to optical fiber communications. The moderator was Prof. Dr. Dejan Vukobratović, associate professor at the Chair of Telecommunications and Signal Processing of the Faculty of Technical Sciences. The keynote speaker within the scientific topic of New technologies for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, held on 14 May, was Prof. Dr. Umnov Aleksej Lyvovic, Head of the Teaching and Research Laboratory of Basic Physics and Technologies of Wireless Communication at the Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod, Russian Federation. The title of his lecture was Application of Internet of Things (IoT) for a new type organization of production. The moderator was Prof. Dr. Stevan Stankovski, full professor at the Chair of Mechatronics, Robotics and Automation of the Faculty of Technical Sciences.
In the central hall of the Rectorate Building, the exhibition on top achievements of the University of Novi Sad in 2016 was set up. The exhibition will be open to the public until the end of September 2017.
As part of the Festival, more than 70 workshops within technical and technological disciplines, medical, natural and social sciences were organised. The opportunities of studying at the University of Novi Sad were presented together with the opportunities of studying abroad at partner institutions.
Despite unfavourable weather conditions, the two-day Festival attracted around 11,000 visitors.
