The tenth International Festival of Science and Education was held on May 12 and 13, 2018 on the central campus of the University of Novi Sad. This year’s festival was dedicated to the 240th anniversary of the establishment of Norma – the School for the Education of Serbian Teachers, founded in 1778 in Sombor, which is considered as one of the most significant predecessors of the present-day University of Novi Sad.
The Festival was officially opened on May 12, 2018 on the plateau in front of the Central University Building of the University of Novi Sad. During the opening ceremony, the attendees were addressed by Prof. Dr. Dušan Nikolić, Rector of the University of Novi Sad and Chairman of the Festival’s Programme Board and Prof. Dr. Stevan Stankovski, Chairman of the Festival’s Organizational Board. The programme further involved the opening of the exhibition entitled ʻNorma of Avram Mrazović – 240 years of Education of Serbian Teachersʼ, jointly organized by the Museum of Vojvodina and the Faculty of Education in Sombor of the University of Novi Sad.
The aim of the event is the promotion of science and the presentation of contemporary achievements and current research in the country and abroad. A diverse educational, interactive and interesting programme of this year's festival included 77 creative and interactive workshops in technical, technological, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, medical disciplines and arts, with the participation of 480 researchers, teachers and students of the University of Novi Sad, including the Festival’s guests.
The programme of the Festival was conceived in such a manner as to acquaint the wider public, in a simple, understandable and approachable way, with the scientific and research activities of the faculties, institutes and research groups of the University of Novi Sad and present their contribution to the development of science and education in a wide variety of fields.
The international dimension of this year’s Festival was given by the programmes offered by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russian Federation, the French Institute in Serbia and the Confucius Institute at the University of Novi Sad.
The Center for Strategic and Advanced Studies of the University of Novi Sad organized two popular science lectures, as part of the Festival, held by representatives of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna: Yuri Panebrattsev, Head of Department at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics of the Institute on the topic ʻNICA Collider: The Universe in the laboratoryʼ, and Nikita Sidorov, Research Project Leader at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics of the Institute on the topic ʻExperimental Potentials of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Researchʼ.
The Festival had approximately 15,500 visitors during two days.
The organiser of the Festival was the University of Novi Sad, while its patrons were the Provincial Government and the Provincial Secretariat for Higher Education and Scientific Research.
