ANNUAL MEETING OF THE DANUBE RECTORS’ CONFERENCE HELD IN BRATISLAVA

The annual meeting of the Danube Rectors’ Conference was held November 8-9, 2018, at Comenius University in Bratislava. Among the high representatives of member universities, the DRC annual event was also attended by the Rector of the University of Novi Sad Prof. Dr. Dejan Jakšić.

 

The main topic of this year’s conference was the role of the universities as centres of regional development. On behalf of the host institution, the guests were welcomed by the Rector of the Comenius University in Bratislava and the DRC Vice-President Prof. Dr. Karol Mičieta, together with the President of the DRC and the Rector of the Danube University Krems Friedrich Faulhammer.

The first day of the conference included the conferral ceremony of the annual Danubius Award and the Danubius Young Scientist Award. Among the laureates from 14 countries participating in the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, Danubius Young Scientist Award for Serbia was conferred to Dr. Jelena Vladić, a young researcher from the Faculty of Technology of the University of Novi Sad.

A new DRC Presidency was elected at the DRC General Assembly of the Danube Rectors’ Conference, held on the second day of the meeting, November 9, 2018. The newly elected DRC President is Rector of the University of Belgrade Prof. Dr. Ivanka Popović. Two new Vice-Presidents were also elected: Friedrich Faulhammer, the Rector of the Danube University Krems and Prof. Dr. Dietmar Meyer, Rector of Andrássy University Budapest.

The Danube Rectors’ Conference is one of the most significant university associations of the Danube Region, encompassing today almost 70 member universities from Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Moldavia, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic and Ukraine. The University of Novi Sad was a host of the annual meeting of the Danube Rectors’ Conference in February 2010, having a presiding role during the period 2010-2011.
