STUDY PROGRAM OF MASTER ACADEMIC STUDIES GENDER STUDIES

  • General information
  • Schedule of courses by semesters

Study program purpose

The purpose of the study program of the master academic studies in Gender Studies complies with its interdisciplinary profile, which derives from international and national research and documents in the field of gender studies and gender equality, as well as the Plan of the University of Novi Sad for achieving Gender Equality 2022-2024. The success and fairness of research and scientific-research organizations also requires the application of gender-sensitive knowledge, which illuminates and enables understanding of gender patterns and the social, economic and political circumstances under which they arise. If gender inequality is maintained in institutions that produce knowledge, it can deprive the nature of knowledge of its far-reaching and layered nature. Therefore, striving towards the creation of a gender-sensitive and fair academic environment is of great importance. The aim of the study program is to contribute and build students' general knowledge about the concept of gender through the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge about gender relations and prevailing gender norms in the social, political, economic, cultural and scientific domains, as well as the domain of social relations, in synchronous and/or diachronic perspectives; acquiring theoretical and practical knowledge and training for solving social, political, economic and interpersonal problems based on the distribution of gender roles and the unequal treatment of women and men in all domains of private and public life.

Study program objectives

The goal of the master academic study program in Gender Studies is the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of gender studies, training for an interdisciplinary approach in research and the integration of a gender-sensitive approach in the field of social science and humanities in accordance with the purpose of the study program. The study program provides male and female students with the necessary competencies to access the labor market in public administration bodies, in the private sector, in international organizations on the territory of Serbia and outside Serbia, as well as in the non-profit sector in order to analyze and implement plans for achieving gender equality and other planning documents from the field of gender equality. The study program also prepares students for the next level of postgraduate education in the country and abroad.

By mastering the study program, male and female students acquire the following general and specific competencies for the quality performance of professional activities:

- mastery of methods, procedures and processes for an interdisciplinary and gender-sensitive approach in scientific research;

- the ability to apply the knowledge of gender analysis in practice;
- develop the ability to independently present the results of their research in the national and international scientific environment in the field of interdisciplinary gender studies;
